About the Smart Packing List Generator

This tool builds a packing list from a set of category templates rather than one fixed list. It always starts with core essentials (passport, travel insurance, chargers, medications) and a climate-specific clothing set — hot/tropical, cold/winter, mild/mixed, beach/resort, or mountain/hiking — plus toiletries and health items. It then layers on extra categories based on your answers: carry-on extras if you're flying, business items for a business trip, adventure gear for adventure or backpacking trips (or a mountain climate), backpacker-specific extras, beach extras for a beach climate, city essentials, cruise extras, and family/kids items if travelling with children.

Duplicate categories are removed automatically, and the first three items in every category are marked as high-priority so you can pack those first. The list is generated from templates covering common trip patterns, so always add any personal or destination-specific items (visas, adapters for a specific country, prescription paperwork) that aren't covered by the general categories.

Frequently Asked Questions

It always includes essentials, a climate-matched clothing set, toiletries and health items, then adds extra categories conditionally: carry-on extras if flying, business items for business trips, adventure/backpacking gear for adventure trips or a mountain climate, beach extras for a beach climate, city essentials, cruise extras, and family items if travelling with children.
The first three items listed in each category are marked as high priority so you pack those first — they're generally the hardest to buy locally or the easiest to forget, like your passport, chargers or medications.
Climate determines which clothing category applies (hot, cold, mild, beach or mountain) and therefore which garment types you need. Trip length mainly affects how many of each item to bring, which is a personal judgement call the checklist doesn't try to make for you.
Yes. A business trip adds items like a laptop charger, business cards, and smart/formal wear, while backpacking or adventure trips add hiking gear, a padlock, money belt, and similar rugged-travel essentials on top of the base categories.
