How to Use the Unit Converter
Select a category (length, weight, temperature, etc.), enter your value, choose the input and output units, and the result appears instantly — no button needed. All conversions support both metric and imperial systems.
Common Conversion Examples
- Length: 1 mile = 1.609 km | 1 foot = 30.48 cm | 1 inch = 2.54 cm
- Weight: 1 kg = 2.205 lbs | 1 stone = 6.35 kg | 1 oz = 28.35 g
- Temperature: 100°C = 212°F | 37°C (body temp) = 98.6°F | 0°C = 32°F
- Speed: 100 km/h = 62.14 mph | 1 knot = 1.852 km/h
- Area: 1 acre = 4,047 m² | 1 hectare = 2.471 acres
- Volume: 1 litre = 0.264 US gallons | 1 cup = 236.6 mL
- Digital Storage: 1 GB = 1,024 MB | 1 TB = 1,024 GB
All conversions use exact SI-standard ratios. No signup required — results are calculated locally in your browser.
The Conversion Formula
Most conversions are a simple multiplication: Output = Input × Conversion Factor (e.g., km → miles uses a factor of 0.6214). Temperature is the exception, requiring an offset: °F = (°C × 9/5) + 32.
Worked Example
Converting a recipe measurement: 2.5 kg of flour to pounds.
- Step 1: Conversion factor: 1 kg = 2.2046 lbs
- Step 2: 2.5 × 2.2046 = 5.51 lbs
Quick Reference: Metric vs. Imperial
| Metric | Imperial/US | Factor |
|---|---|---|
| 1 kilometer | 0.6214 miles | × 0.6214 |
| 1 kilogram | 2.2046 lbs | × 2.2046 |
| 1 liter | 0.2642 US gal | × 0.2642 |
| 0°C | 32°F | ×9/5 + 32 |
