How Exchange Rates Work
An exchange rate tells you how much of one currency you get for another. Rates fluctuate constantly based on trade, inflation, interest rates, and market sentiment. Our converter uses mid-market rates — the midpoint between buy and sell prices — updated daily.
Example Currency Conversions
- USD → EUR: 1 US Dollar ≈ 0.92 Euro (rates vary daily)
- USD → GBP: 1 US Dollar ≈ 0.79 British Pound
- USD → INR: 1 US Dollar ≈ 83 Indian Rupee
- USD → JPY: 1 US Dollar ≈ 150 Japanese Yen
- EUR → GBP: 1 Euro ≈ 0.86 British Pound

Worked Example: Converting for a Trip
Say you're converting $2,000 USD to INR for a trip to India, and the mid-market rate shown is 1 USD = 83.12 INR.
Step 1: Multiply amount × rate → 2,000 × 83.12 = ₹1,66,240. Step 2: This is the mid-market figure — your bank or card network will apply a margin (commonly 1-4%), so budget for receiving roughly ₹1,59,600–₹1,64,600 depending on your provider. Always compare the rate your bank actually offers against the mid-market rate shown here before a large transfer.
