How Engagement Rate Is Calculated
Engagement rate measures how actively your audience interacts with your content relative to your follower count. This calculator uses the standard formula: Engagement Rate = (Likes + Comments + Shares + Saves) / Followers x 100, averaged across the number of posts you enter -- a more reliable read than eyeballing a single post's likes, since it factors in every interaction type your platform tracks, not just likes.
Benchmarks vary significantly by platform: TikTok's algorithm rewards high engagement more aggressively, so its "good" range (6-10%) sits well above Instagram's (3-6%), while LinkedIn and Facebook typically run lower (1-4%) due to larger average follower bases and text/link-heavy feeds. Comparing your rate only within the same platform is the fair way to judge performance -- a 2% rate is mediocre on TikTok but solid on Facebook.
Worked Example
An Instagram account with 10,000 followers, whose latest post got 350 likes, 45 comments, 20 shares, and 80 saves: total engagements = 495, engagement rate = 4.95% -- landing in the "Good" range (3-6%) for Instagram, above the 1-3% average but below the 6%+ high-performer threshold.
