About the Trademark Cost Estimator

This tool estimates the total cost of registering a trademark across up to five major jurisdictions: the USA (USPTO), UK (UKIPO), EU (EUIPO), India (CGPDTM), and Australia (IP Australia). For each jurisdiction you select, it adds the government filing fee for your first class of goods/services, a pro-rata fee for each additional class beyond the first, and, if you choose to include it, a typical attorney fee for handling the filing.

Filing in multiple classes is common when your brand covers more than one category of goods or services (for example, a clothing brand that also sells accessories). Government fees generally scale per additional class, while attorney fees are typically charged per jurisdiction rather than per class. Filing directly with a national office without an attorney reduces cost but increases the risk of the application being rejected or challenged over technical errors, since trademark examiners apply strict formal and substantive requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

For each jurisdiction you select, the tool adds that office's base government fee for one class, plus a pro-rata extra-class fee for each class beyond the first (based on the number you enter), plus a typical attorney fee if you choose to include one. The totals for each selected jurisdiction are then summed.
Trademark rights are territorial: registering with the USPTO protects you only in the United States, not in the UK or EU. If you sell or plan to sell internationally, registering in each relevant market (or via a system like the Madrid Protocol) is generally necessary to enforce your rights there.
Filing yourself (selecting "No — government fees only") is cheaper, but trademark examiners apply strict formal and substantive requirements, and mistakes can delay or permanently jeopardise your application. An attorney adds cost but reduces the risk of rejection or later challenges to your registration.
Trademark classes are standardised categories of goods and services (for example, Class 25 covers clothing, Class 9 covers software). If your brand covers products or services in more than one class, most offices charge an additional pro-rata fee for each class beyond the first.
